The Dr. Harvey Zarren Healing Gardens at NSMC Union Hospital in Lynn were officially dedicated on June 7, 2007.
Stats: 23,000-square-feet of woodland behind Union Hospital’s Healing Atrium.
A series of walkways connecting nine unique garden areas.
Designed by architects Weinmayer-Jay Associates of Somerville.

Mary Jane and David J. Solimine, Sr. are major donors who named the Chapel Gardens within the Healing Gardens.
Vision: The Healing Gardens are designed to entice people "to move through the outer environment and into their own internal self-healing environment,” said Healing Gardens namesake, Dr. Harvey Zarren, an NSMC Union Hospital cardiologist whose career now centers on compassionate medicine and “whole person health.”
NSMC’s Healing Gardens features paths accessible for wheelchairs and hospital beds—enabling even seriously ill patients to spend time with their loved ones in the peaceful presence of familiar trees, flowers and birds.
