Patients and Visitors

Patients are admitted to North Shore Medical Center through the SurgiCenters at NSMC Salem Hospital or NSMC Union Hospital, as well as through our Emergency Departments. At least half our patients complete the process of being admitted and registered themselves, which is why we've recently made updates to help streamline the surgical process for all our patients.

Surgery Patients: A New Way to Manage Your Health History!

NSMC has partnered with One Medical Passport to bring our patients greater convenience and control over the surgical experience. If you are scheduled to have surgery at NSMC Salem Hospital or NSMC Union Hospital, you now have the option of submitting your medical history online at the secure One Medical Passport web site (contact your surgeon's office for the information needed to use this site if you don't have it already).

We have also added information about the process for pre-surgery testing and guidelines for the day of surgery itself.  Click here to get detailed information and print outs for the entire surgical process.

Admitting

Patients admitted to the hospital are given an admitting packet. The packet contains the Patient Bill of Rights, our No Smoking regulations, and information on what will be in your room (TV, etc.). It will also explain your HIPPA rights, including an option to restrict all mail, phone calls and visitors if you prefer complete privacy during your stay. Information about how to designate a Health Care Proxy will be in packet as well.
