Difficulty paying your bill?
NSMC will generate and send bills to patients for services that are deemed that patient's responsibility. These bills may include balances for copays or deductibles. Uninsured patients and all patients who need assistance paying their bills can call our billing office at 1.888.317.6410. You may be eligible for one of the assistance programs listed below.
Financial counseling
The North Shore Medical Center makes financial counseling services available to all patients. We provide information about federal, state, and private programs that may assist patients with paying their medical bills. NSMC offers several programs to assist uninsured patients with payment of their bills. All uninsured patients are eligible for a discount.
NSMC also assists patients in applying for Mass Health and Free Care (available to Massachusetts residents only.) By comparing your family size and family income to the federal poverty guidelines, our counselors may be able to enroll you and other family members in a free or low cost health insurance coverage option. It is your responsibility to contact NSMC to obtain information or to work with our counselors in completing the application for these coverage options.
Financial counseling locations
Financial Counseling staff are available at various places around NSMC Salem Hospital, and both NSMC Salem and NSMC Union patients may avail themselves of their services.
- Emergency Department Monday to Friday 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.
- Weekend Emergency Department, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Across from the Cashier’s Office on Axelrod 6, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Davenport 4, near Patient Registration; this counselor speaks Spanish.
