BOSTON -- North Shore Medical Center installed a lullaby button to alert everyone in the hospital when a baby is born.
When a mom gives birth she gets to push the button, which plays a lullaby for everyone at the hospital to hear. The idea of the lullaby button came from a former hospital patient. New parents can share their moment of joy with patients and staff.
"After a lot of hard work it was great to ring the bell, and it was neat to see all the smiles on the nurses and it was worth it and know another life has come through," mother of newborn Meredith Kennedy said.
The button is especially comforting to the many people at the hospital dealing with sickness and tragedy. The simple sound of the sweet song makes many smile.
The first night the button was installed, 8 babies were born. The lullaby button was such a hit that other hospitals have considered installing ones of their own.
