Salem, Mass. – North Shore Medical Center (NSMC) is giving patients a new reason to smile. Starting this week, the NSMC Birthplace is offering families the opportunity to spread the joy and happiness of their newborn infant to all corners of Salem Hospital.
New parents simply press the “lullaby button” on the wall of the NSMC Birthplace, which sends a short stanza from “Brahms’s Lullaby” through the overhead paging system.
“We hope that this sweet melody will offer all who hear it -- patients, staff and visitors -- a chance to pause, smile and share in the miracle of birth,” said Lisa Cavallaro, the nurse manager at the NSMC Birthplace.
The NSMC Birthplace at Salem Hospital was completely renovated in 2005, it is the centerpiece of NSMC’s obstetrical program. This year alone, it will support more than 3,600 mothers and newborns.
The Story family from Lynn was among the first to press the Lullaby Button at the NSMC Birthplace, after the birth of their 5th son, Carson.
