The Department of Medicine is the largest department at NSMC and includes a large and diverse group of primary care physicians, family medicine physicians, specialists, hospitalists and intensivists.

Primary care and family medicine physicians provide a superlative standard of care for our patients, with a focus on preventing disease prevention and management of chronic medical conditions.

The Department of Medicine also oversees the NSMC Hospitalist Program. Hospitalists are internal medicine physicians who work exclusively in hospitals, maintaining close communication with the primary care physicians during their patient’s hospitalization.

NSMC is fortunate to have a full complement of sub-specialty physicians who provide a high level of expertise in allergy/immunology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, infectious disease, nephrology, neurology, palliative care, pulmonary and critical care, and rheumatology. Highly specialized services, including  interventional cardiology, endoscopy, diabetes care, and neurodiagnostics are provided by these specialists.

Physicians within the Department of Medicine work collaboratively with other specialists from the Departments of Surgery and Radiology, providing truly multidisciplinary care for many conditions. Department of Medicine physicians oversee the intensive care units, and provide leadership for many inpatient and outpatient programs.
