Residency at NSMC

During your outpatient service you will experience a broad range of outpatient settings, from private practice to community health center and a one month rotation at an elder care center.

Continuity Clinic

The internal medicine continuity clinic is held in a well-equipped community health center. Each resident follows a group of patients throughout their training. The clinic takes place one half-day each week during all rotations except during your time working in ICU. You will have one attending preceptor for all three years, and a dedicated clinic nurse.

Ambulatory Rotation (categorical residents only)

The ambulatory rotation month enables you to experience first-hand how a private practice is run. You will work closely with a single attending physician throughout the month. Residents are assigned an ambulatory rotation month in their first and third year of training.

Geriatrics

This is a one month rotation, during your PG II year, done through the Elder Service Plan of the North Shore, a multidisciplinary health team comprised of a primary care doctor, nurses, a physical therapist and a social worker. Elder Service Plan provides care and comfort to a wide range of elderly men and women. You will spend time with the attending physician at his or her office and also while he or she does rounds with patients at the NSMC Union Hospital.
