
Studies show that breastfed babies are healthier because of the natural immunizing properties of breast milk. As natural as breastfeeding is, it does require some education and assistance—even for mothers who have already nursed a child before. The Birthplace offers several resources for the breastfeeding mother and baby at every stage of the cycle, including books and videos in the Women’s Health Center Library, as well as classes:
Prenatal Breastfeeding Class
This is a one-night, 2-hour, class on Mondays from 7 - 9:00 p.m. A certified lactation consultant presents the basics of breastfeeding, including myths related to breastfeeding, breast milk vs. formula, immunlogical properties, normal breastfeeding behavior, breastfeeding and the working mother, dad/partner's role, and more.
