Radiation oncology services at the NSMC Cancer Center combine the latest technology with a team of professionals who are specially trained in the planning and delivery of radiation therapy. Led by James F. McIntyre, M.D., Chief of Radiation Oncology at NSMC and a radiation oncologist on staff at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, the radiation oncology team brings an extraordinary level of expertise to the North Shore community.
Our state-of-the-art technologies include a CT planning system for both three-dimensional and IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy) that provides the most accurate delivery of radiation to the patient, while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues. In addition, three linear accelerators with portal imaging capability enable experts to view patient data during treatment, increasing accuracy and reducing overall treatment time.
In September 2004, the NSMC Cancer Center was awarded a certificate of accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Accreditation is awarded to those facilities that have shown a commitment to providing high-quality health care in their field.
