Heart

Arrhythmia is a disturbance in the rhythm of the heart as it pumps blood through the body. Arrhythmia can occur after a heart attack, but can come about in other ways, including through a natural aberration in the heart’s electrical signals.

We offer the full spectrum of arrhythmia care, including electrophysiology studies (EPS), head-up-tilt table testing, and implantable pacemakers and defibrillators. Defibrillators (also called ICDs) are small devices placed under the skin to automatically resuscitate the heart in the event of life-threatening irregularities or cardiac arrests. They dramatically increase the likelihood of survival.

Pacemaker & Implantable Cardioverter Debifibrillator (ICD) Clinic

If you do have a pacemaker or ICD implanted, we provide assessment and reprogramming of these devices, as needed, on an outpatient basis in our Pacemaker & Implantable Cardioverter Debifibrillator ICD Clinic. The clinic is located on Macomber 5 and sees patients who have single or dual chamber pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) or cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) pacemakers. We also have an ICD support group.

To learn more about arrhythmia, see our arrhythmia page in our Health Library.
