Psychiatric Triage Services at NSMC Salem and Union Hospital’s Emergency Departments provide crisis intervention and comprehensive psychiatric assessment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We can often assess the seriousness of an emergency over the telephone and initiate a plan of treatment. If we determine further evaluation is needed, we may direct you to come to the hospital to meet with the triage team.
We have a wide continuum of care available to our psychiatric patients. Those in acute distress are stabilized in the Emergency Room, where a thorough evaluation and disposition plan is formulated in consultation with the family and referring clinicians. In all cases, referring clinicians are kept informed of the patient's evaluation and disposition plan.
