NSMC offers both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care for children.
NSMC North Shore Children’s Hospital has a multidisciplinary evaluation center where younger children who are experiencing behavioral or psychological difficulties are evaluated and treated. Inpatient services are available at the Hunt Center in Danvers, MA, which serves as a safe treatment haven for the region’s most vulnerable patients with depression, anxiety, psychiatric disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, and other behavior problems. The twenty-bed inpatient psychiatric unit is the largest facility of its type north of Boston. Children and adolescents (ages 3-17) are given high-quality, supportive care close to home, where we are able to interact with their families, physicians, community service agencies, and schools.
Our care teams include child psychiatrists, child psychologists, social workers, tutors, nursing staff, occupational therapists, pet therapy and mental health counselors. We provide comprehensive psychological assessment and focused treatment interventions to stabilize acute psychiatric crises and help children and their families begin the process of growth and recovery.
Pediatric and adolescent inpatients may benefit from the following clinical services in an inviting, nurturing and non-coercive environment:
- Individual and family assessment, support and consultation, including weekly parent support group
- Occupational therapy screening
- Liaison with referring clinicians, primary care physicians, school personnel, social agencies, and managed care programs
