Mammograms are offered at three of our NSMC locations -- NSMC Salem Hospital, NSMC Union Hospital and NSMC Women's Center in Danvers.
Some of the features of our mammogram services are:
- Advanced computer-assisted reading capabilities
- Digital mammography technology
- Evening, weekend and early morning appointments available
- "Same day reading" appointments at NSMC Women’s Center
Test results from repeat mammograms are also provided immediately. If further testing is warranted, diagnostic services such as stereotactic and ultrasound-guided needle biopsy are available.
If you do receive a diagnosis of breast cancer, the breast cancer team at our NSMC Cancer Center is ready to help you. Affiliated with Dana-Farber/Partners Cancer Care and Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, the NSMC Cancer Center takes a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care. Your team may include a pathologist, radiologist, surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist and a nutritionist. Bringing together multiple experts on your behalf ensures that all aspects of your case will be addressed and that your care will be well coordinated for optimal results.
In addition, because certain kinds of cancer are more prevalent than others, the NSMC Cancer Center also offers regular multidisciplinary clinics, including a breast cancer clinic. In the breast cancer multidisciplinary clinic, the combined wisdom and experience of these breast cancer specialists enhances your treatment in critical ways. Should surgery become necessary, our breast surgeons at NSMC Salem Hospital practice the latest breast surgery techniques, including sentinel node biopsy.

Free screening services to low-income women
In partnership with the Lynn Community Health Center and the North Shore Community Health, Inc. centers in Salem and Peabody, NSMC provides free screening services to low-income women through the Women's Health Network. The goal of this innovative state program is to increase the survival rate of breast and cervical cancer patients. NSMC and these community health centers work together to eliminate barriers to treatment for hundreds of women on the North Shore who have insufficient or nonexistent health care coverage. See our screenings page for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' recommendations for health screenings for women.
