Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) is available at both NSMC Union and NSMC Salem hospitals. All state-of-the-art nuclear medicine examinations are performed, including sentinel node localization for breast cancer and skin cancer surgery, three-phase parathyroid scanning and tumor receptor imaging.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is the most technologically advanced nuclear medicine procedure. PET is different from traditional X-ray, CT and MRI imaging because it shows cellular function and metabolism, rather than the anatomy of the body’s structures. Most often, PET benefits cancer patients by making cancer cells easier to detect and treat. The North Shore PET Imaging Center is a joint venture between North Shore Medical Center and Northeast Health Systems, Inc.
